Touch Football Report

On Saturday, September 18, a titanic touch football battle between two bitter rivals saw plenty of highlights – only to have the ultimate winner be Mother Nature.

Team Light Shirts (Blair, Eric, Amelia, Emily) battled Team Dark Shirts (Shaggy, Kent, Jim and Abby) to a 28-28 tie after the game was stopped due to rain and lightning.

Behind a myriad of gadget plays, Team Dark Shirts scored on three of their first four possessions. An early Light Shirts drive was stalled at midfield due to a forward fumble by Emily (playing with an injured finger). Team Dark Shirts capitalized, taking a 21-7 halftime lead.

Team Light Shirts were also hurt early by the play of Quarterback Eric Schmidt. After the first four-and-out possession, Schmidt was pulled and replaced with Amelia, who was able to move the offense down the field.

The second half was a different story. The tone was set early by Schmidt, who laid a Ray Lewis style hit on Shaggy after a short reception. Thanks to Blair’s blanket coverage of star receiver Kent, the Light Shirts held the Dark Shirts to only one second-half TD.

Using an effective short passing game, the Light Shirt offense hit its stride, scoring three TDs in the half.

With the clock winding down (and lightning being spotted), the Dark Shirts went four-and-out on their final possession, preserving the tie.
