Get Out the Vote Efforts

Article posted on Thursday, September 11, 2008 at 2:05 pm by Eric the Web Nerd

From Jessica: At the August GMM I mentioned voting and the upcoming elections. Many people are registered to vote but may not know who is running in their district. Others want to help others be educated but do not know where to start. Though this fall the Jaycees are really busy with great projects that are happening each month I know each of you want to help too.

I am sending you this great link so you can be as informed as possible – wmich.edu/vote. This is a nonpartisan site designed and maintained by the University Libraries.

The deadline to register to vote is October 6th, one month before elections. So, if you know people who need registration forms, you can access them from this site, pass this information along. In addition, if you are interested in nonpartisan voter registration there is a group on WMU’s campus that is registering people.

If you would like to get involved with them I can get you the contact name. They only ask that you be nonpartisan and not bring any party agendas with you. If you have further questions or need more information please contact Jessica Maronto at jmaronto AT yahoo.com.

Just to follow up: I was considering volunteering as a pollworker, I think that would be really fun. It seems that the volunteers in my district are getting on in years, and it might be of benefit to get some younger workers trained. Anyone else interested?
