Here’s What You Missed (December GMM)

Hey, Jaypeeps!

You missed some good stuff if you weren’t at the December GMM.

Representatives from Warm Kids were on hand to receive the check for money raised through this year’s Ghosts of Kalamazoo Historic Tours. Our donation to them this year was $4,850! In appreciation of all we’ve done for their organization, Warm Kids presented the Kalamazoo Jaycees with a certificate of appreciation and a wooden plaque commemorating the $10,000 we have raised for their organization over the past couple of years. A picture of the check presentation is being submitted to the Kalamazoo Gazette – so keep watch!

WebCom, your resident Board of Nerds, is looking to launch the new website early next year. Having gained the nod of approval from the 2011 Board of Directors, WebCom will be assembling again soon(ish) to proceed with the next steps. If you’d like to share your story of why or how you became a Jaycee, please submit it to Eric Schmidt or Heather Stewart.

January 22, 2010 – Year End Banquet! This year the event will be held at Niko’s Landing. The event is semi-formal. Members get in for free. Guests are $30, due at the time of RSVP. Invitations will be coming. If you want to be on the committee – contact Heather Stewart. In line with Heather’s idea for More Recognition next year, she introduced six Chapter Voted awards at the GMM. If you were not present but would like to vote, please contact Heather Stewart or Chris Fucile for more information. Voting ends December 31st.

Ready to spread some Holiday Cheer? Get ready for one of the greatest projects, Adopt-A-Family. We’ve adopted TWO families this year. There is an “official” shopping night December 16, 6:30 pm, Westnedge Meijer. And of course, all of these amazing presents need to be wrapped. So come on out to Ryan Hawkin’s house (he said it was okay) on December 19th, 2:00 pm. And finally, on December 22, 6:30 pm, meet up with us at the Perkins on Sprinkle Road for the delivery! Questions? Contact Adopt-A-Family Chair, Emily Elliott.

Looking for some Individual Development (ID) love? Come on out to the GMMs in 2011 – each meeting will have a short (5-10 minute) presentation. December got a sneak peek at a Gem. Heather Stewart talked about words, and specifically the words We Build Leaders. Keep an eye on the blog for a copy of her presentation. If you’d like to present a GMM Gem, or would like to chair this super fun project, contact Heather Stewart.

It’s not too early to start thinking about February and Convention! Never been? It’s a great chance to spend some time with your fellow KazayJays as well as meet other Jaypeeps from around the State. There are trainings, numerous chances for people watching, and you just never know what you’ll learn or hear! Our chapter offers a $20 credit toward one Convention, which means if you pre-register for basic registration, your Convention fee is covered! The Chapter also covers the cost of a hotel room – no, you don’t get one by yourself. See above reference to spending time with your fellow KazayJays.

Bylaw & Order met last month, and their proposed changes were brought before the membership for approval. For more information on the changes, contact Blair Lorimer.

Tell me how you’re feeling. A membership survey is on the horizon – look for more information on the blog and Facebook and Twitter and your inbox by the end of this week. Deadline for the survey is the January GMM. It’s a short survey, ten questions. More details will be announced soon.

Get ready, Kalamazoo. Here comes Jaycee You-niversity. Let’s make sure our new members are educated. Let’s learn some new stuff ourselves. And let’s have a graduation party at the end of it all…

More details on this new, superfun project coming next GMM.

And that’s the gist of what you missed.
