Letter Carriers Food Drive

Guest-blogging: Mike Kragt, unofficial Jaycees Non-Disgruntled Postal Carrier:

Service to Humanity…what a concept. Ever wonder as a Jaycee what that really means besides a line in the creed? In my opinion it means what we can do for someone else to make their life better. I know that we run many projects that do just that but, how many times have you felt like you just don’t have the time to make a commitment.

The Easter Egg project, Relay for Life, Ghost Tours as examples are all wonderful projects that unfortunately require an elaborate amount of time and energy. How many times have you found yourself saying that I would like to help out but don’t have a lot of free time? I ask myself that alot. Don’t you wish that there was someway to help out the community but not have to commit a lot of time? There is a perfect way and it would take you as little as 5 minutes and would make a hugh difference in the community.

How is that possible… and do we need a CPG or chairperson for it? None of that is needed. This Saturday is the Annual Letter Carriers Food Drive. I am sure that we all have some non-perishable food items in our cupboards that we could donate. All food collected Saturday goes to the local Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.

With the economy the way it is, for some people a box of Mac & Cheese is a 7 course meal. Now ask youself… how much did that specialty coffee cost? $4-5? Or how about that cute little purse that you didn’t really need but it was on sale for $30? That 12 pack of beer?.. you get my point. Just think of how much food that could provide to someone that is in need.

I challenge everyone in the entire Jaycee World to donate food! If you go to the store, pick up a few extra items..or find something at home already. Just leave it by your mailbox on Saturday morning and the mailman will pick it up…simple as that. Let’s ALL help fill the food pantry this year. Can you spare 5 minutes?..you may just make someone’s life a little better, and Service to Humanity is the BEST WORK OF LIFE!!
