The Jaycees mission is to produce strong leaders who aspire to create positive change in their lives and in the community at large. By offering this scholarship opportunity, the Kalamazoo Jaycees hope to make our mission a reality by providing recipients with support of academic pursuits that exemplify the spirit of our mission.
A scholarship in an amount up to $1000 will be awarded to a qualified applicant to assist with education related expenses (i.e. tuition, lab fees). If the judges determine there is more than one qualified applicant, the Kalamazoo Jaycees may decide to award multiple scholarships of smaller amounts which would total up to $1000.
Applicants must be age 21-40, reside in Kalamazoo County, have been accepted to a college or university, and have demonstrated financial need. Past and present Jaycee members are not eligible to receive this scholarship.
Additionally, an individual previously awarded this scholarship is not eligible to receive it again. The Kalamazoo Jaycees reserves the right not to award the scholarship if a qualified applicant is not identified in a given year.
Interested applicants should complete the scholarship application form, including essay portions, and obtain a recommendation letter from a professional who is not a family member. Additionally, each applicant must have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the upcoming academic year.

Kalamazoo Jaycee Scholarship applications and recommendation letters must be postmarked by July 1, 2008.
Awards will be determined on the basis of financial need and evaluation of individual merit demonstrated in the application, essays, and letter of recommendation. The recipient(s) of any scholarship awarded shall be determined in the sole and exclusive discretion of the Kalamazoo Jaycees.
Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a judging committee composed of Kalamazoo Jaycee members during the month of July 2008. Notification letters will be mailed in early August 2008.
Additionally, an invitation will be extended to the selected recipient(s) to attend the Kalamazoo Jaycees General Membership Meeting on August 20, 2008 for the purpose of accepting the award.
The information provided in each application shall be reviewed for the sole purpose of scholarship award consideration. The information shall not be shared with any person, company or other entity outside of the Kalamazoo Jaycees and/or any of its affiliates.
Applications of those applicants who are not awarded a scholarship shall be destroyed. Applications of those applicants who are awarded scholarships shall be retained by the Kalamazoo Jaycees.
